No coaching centre can honestly be called the best Sainik School coaching in India for every child. There is no official ranking, and the only fair yardstick is the entrance test itself: the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE), a multiple-choice OMR paper that the National Testing Agency (NTA) sets and marks. The useful question for a parent is therefore not “who tops a list” but “who prepares a ten-to-fourteen-year-old for that paper, and does it safely”.
This page gives you nine checks to put to any coaching, shows how to test a results claim against NTA’s own lists, and explains why some families from other states look at Dehradun. Every exam fact below comes from the NTA bulletin or the Sainik Schools Society, and the sources are listed at the end.
What does a Sainik School coach actually have to prepare your child for?
The 2026 bulletin, which is the latest published, sets two papers. Both are pen-and-pencil tests with multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet, and there is no negative marking for a wrong answer.
| Entry class | Sections (questions) | Total | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 6 | Language 25, Mathematics 50, Intelligence 25, General Knowledge 25 | 125 questions, 300 marks | 150 minutes |
| Class 9 | Mathematics 50, Intelligence 25, English 25, General Science 25, Social Science 25 | 150 questions, 400 marks | 180 minutes |
Mathematics carries 150 of 300 marks in the Class 6 paper and 200 of 400 in the Class 9 paper, and it is also the first tie-breaker between equal scorers. A coaching that spends its week on general knowledge and treats Mathematics as one subject among many is not reading the paper the way NTA has set it.
Is there an official list of approved Sainik School coaching?
No. NTA conducts the test, and the Sainik Schools Society frames the admission rules. Neither publishes a ranking of coaching centres or endorses one. The bulletin goes further and cautions parents against touts and agents who promise help with admission for money, stating that neither NTA nor the Society has authorised anyone to offer such help. Coaching is a private choice, and it should be judged like any other purchase: by what it teaches, how it treats your child and what it puts in writing.
Nine checks before you pay for Sainik School coaching
| Check | What to ask | What a sound answer sounds like |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Paper coverage | Which sections will my child be taught, for the class he or she is applying to? | The sections in the bulletin for that class, with OMR practice built in. |
| 2. Weight on Mathematics | How much of the week goes to Mathematics? | A clear majority share, since it is half the marks. |
| 3. Mock tests | How often are timed mocks held, and are they reviewed question by question? | Full-length mocks at 150 or 180 minutes near the exam, shorter sectional sets before, and a mistake log. |
| 4. Batch size and access | How many children sit in a batch? Can my child ask a doubt after class? | A number you can see in the room, not a promise. |
| 5. Class and age fit | Will my child sit with children preparing for the same entry class? | Class 5 children with Class 5, Class 8 with Class 8, because the papers differ. |
| 6. Interview training | Why is interview coaching part of this course? | For Sainik Schools it should not be. The interview was discontinued from session 2019-20. |
| 7. Seat promises | Can you promise my child a seat? | No. Passing marks do not confer a right to admission. |
| 8. Proof of results | Can I match your results to a public list? | Roll numbers that match NTA’s published lists, and clarity on what the child actually attended. |
| 9. Fees, refunds and welfare | What is the total fee in writing, what is refundable, and who supervises children outside class hours? | A written fee with every head listed, written refund terms and a named person responsible for minors. |
Check 6 deserves a word. A Society order of 4 July 2018 discontinued the interview for admission to Sainik Schools from the 2019-20 session, so the final merit list rests on the written test, subject to medical fitness. Some pages still describe an interview. If a coaching sells interview preparation for a Sainik School, ask what exactly it is preparing your child for. The Rashtriya Indian Military College is a different matter, because it does hold a viva after its written test.
How to check a coaching claim against the NTA result
After the AISSEE-2026 exam of 18 January 2026, NTA declared the result on 27 February 2026 and put up lists of candidates who qualified or did not qualify, separately for Class 6 and Class 9. Each row shows a roll number, application number, category, domicile, total marks and an all-India rank. That makes a results claim checkable. Ask the coaching for roll numbers, and ask whether the child attended a full-year class or only a short test series.
Remember, too, what “qualified” means. The bulletin says that passing the test does not confer any right to admission. Seats are filled through e-counselling by rank, category, home state or outside state, vacancies, medical fitness and verification of original documents. A coaching that says “selected” when it means “qualified” is telling you something about itself.
Class 6 or Class 9: which batch does your child need?
The 2026 bulletin allowed Class 6 entry for children aged 10 to 12 on 31 March 2026 and Class 9 entry for those aged 13 to 15 on the same date, with Class 8 passed from a recognised school at the time of admission. For Class 6 the language section can be taken in any of 13 languages, while the Class 9 paper is in English only. A Class 8 child is not a bigger Class 5 child: the Class 9 paper adds General Science and Social Science and doubles the Mathematics marks per question to four. Ask any coaching to teach each class from its own syllabus, not from one shared notebook.
The AISSEE-2027 bulletin was not on the NTA page when we checked on 12 October 2026, and NTA’s tentative calendar of 16 September 2026 lists the exam for 31 January 2027. Treat that date as provisional until the bulletin confirms it. Sainik Schools do not admit after Class 10; for that stage the route is the NDA, which our NDA foundation page explains.
Why some families from other states look at Dehradun
Dehradun is home to the Indian Military Academy, and the Rashtriya Indian Military College is at Garhi Cantt in the same city. Dehradun was also one of the AISSEE-2026 examination cities. For a family that wants a child to prepare in a place where defence careers are part of everyday conversation, that setting counts for something. It is a reason to look, not a reason to enrol, and the nine checks above still apply to us.
GS India Defence Academy runs classroom coaching at Street 1, Subharti Road, Nanda Ki Chowki, Lower Kolhupani, Dehradun 248007. We have no online classes. There are separate hostels for boys and girls, with a mess. A hostel is a serious decision for a child of ten or eleven, so we suggest that you visit first, meet the people who will be responsible and ask your questions in person. Free counselling is available by phone or WhatsApp on +91 70170 31757.
A fair way to decide
- Shortlist two or three coaching centres, in your city and outside it.
- Put the nine checks to each and ask for the answers in writing.
- Sit through a demonstration class, if one is offered, and watch how the teacher handles a child who is lost.
- Compare total cost including hostel, books and tests, not the headline tuition.
- Read the NTA bulletin yourself. It is free, and it is the document that decides everything else.
Best Sainik School coaching: common questions
FAQs
Questions parents ask us.
Can't find yours? Ask on WhatsApp; a counsellor usually replies within working hours.
Ask on WhatsAppWhich is the best Sainik School coaching in India?
There is no official ranking, and no honest list can name one centre as best for every child. Check how a coaching covers the paper, how often it holds timed mocks, who looks after your child, and whether its results can be matched to NTA lists.
Is there an interview in Sainik School admission?
No. The Sainik Schools Society discontinued the interview from the 2019-20 session. Admission is by the written test, e-counselling and medical fitness. The Rashtriya Indian Military College is different and does hold a viva.
Is there negative marking in AISSEE?
No. The 2026 bulletin states that there is no negative marking for a wrong response, so a child should attempt every question.
Can coaching assure a seat in a Sainik School?
No. Qualifying in the test confers no right to admission. Seats depend on rank, category, home state or outside state, vacancies, medical fitness and document verification.
When should my child start preparing?
Planning about a year before the target class gives room for an unhurried start. Read the new NTA bulletin as soon as it is published, because dates and age rules are fixed there.
Does GS India offer online Sainik School classes?
No. Our Sainik School coaching is classroom-based in Dehradun, and there is no online batch.
