After Class 12, the right NDA coaching is a batch that matches the UPSC examination you can still reach, is taught in the exam’s own format and includes SSB preparation. In October 2026 the next NDA and NA examination on UPSC’s calendar is on 11 April 2027, about six months away, and the one after that is on 19 September 2027. That calendar, more than any ranking of academies, decides which kind of batch makes sense.
Which NDA exam can a Class 12 student still reach?
UPSC holds the NDA and NA examination twice a year. The latest completed cycle is NDA and NA (II) 2026, held on 13 September 2026. These are the next two, from UPSC’s programme of examinations for 2027, issued on 20 May 2026.

UPSC says these dates can change, so confirm them on the exam calendar and on upsc.gov.in. The age window for each cycle is fixed in its own notification. For NDA and NA (II) 2026 it was candidates born between 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2011, so check the birth-date range in the notification you are aiming at, or use the eligibility checker.
What the notification asks of a 12th-pass student

The last row matters. A student need not wait for the board result to apply, which is why the notification date, and not the result date, sets your timeline. If you want the Air Force or Naval wings, the stream you studied in Class 12 must include Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Which batch fits: full year, or a short push?

A student who joins in October 2026 has about six months before the April 2027 paper. Whether that is enough depends on how much of the syllabus is already in place, and a counsellor can tell you honestly after a short conversation. What the written paper and SSB mean for your plan
The UPSC notification sets the structure. The written examination has two objective papers, Mathematics of 300 marks and the General Ability Test of 600 marks, each of 2½ hours. A wrong answer costs one third (0.33) of the marks for that question. Candidates who qualify then appear before a Services Selection Board for the intelligence and personality test, which carries another 900 marks. A candidate must reach the qualifying marks in both stages, and the final merit list is made from the total of the two. The SSB therefore counts for as much as the written paper, and the written result decides who is called.
It follows that the best NDA coaching after Class 12 does two things at once. It drills the written paper under timed, negatively marked conditions, and it starts SSB-focused preparation early enough that it is not squeezed into the weeks after the result. Ask any academy how its calendar divides the months between the two.
What to check in any NDA coaching after 12th
- The target exam. Which UPSC cycle is the batch built for, and when does it end?
- Test practice. Ask for the test calendar and whether papers follow the UPSC layout and marking.
- SSB preparation. When does it start, who guides it, and what background do they have in their own words?
- Board exams. Class 12 boards and the April paper can fall close together. Ask how the timetable treats a student who is still in school.
- Fees on paper. Tuition, hostel, mess, registration and what is refundable, in writing.
- Verifiable results. Names you can match on an official list, with the course taken.

If you have already written the paper, or miss a cycle
Missing a cycle is not the end of the road, but it is not free either. The birth-date window moves with each notification, so a candidate born near the upper edge of one window may have only a cycle or two left. Read the age condition in the next notification before you plan a gap year, and test your own date of birth on the eligibility checker.
A student who has written the paper once has something no coaching can supply: knowledge of where the marks went. Go through the paper question by question, separate careless mistakes from real gaps in the syllabus, and bring that list to the counselling call. It lets a counsellor recommend a full-year batch or a short revision course on evidence and not on guesswork.
