Agniveer eligibility depends on the trade you choose. The Army has asked for Class 10 for General Duty, Class 12 Science for Technical, Class 12 in any stream for Clerk and Store Keeper Technical, and Class 10 or Class 8 for Tradesmen, with an age of 17½ to 21 years. Marks cut-offs and date-of-birth blocks are fixed in each year’s notice, so use this page to understand the pattern and then read the current notice.
What education does each Army Agniveer trade need?
| Category | Education the Army asked for | Marks |

These figures are from the Army’s Agnipath rally notification for 2022-23, the most recent complete Army notification we could read in full. The Army revises dates, age and marks rules from cycle to cycle, so read the notice of your own year before you apply. The Army’s 2026 Common Entrance Examination schedule lists the same categories: General Duty, Tradesmen (10th and 8th), Technical, Clerk and Store Keeper Technical, and General Duty (Women Military Police).
What is the Agniveer age limit?
The Army’s Agnipath brochure states an eligible age of 17½ to 21 years, and the Cabinet release of 14 June 2022 says the same. The 2022-23 notice raised the upper age to 23 as a one-time measure for that recruiting year and printed the exact date-of-birth block, 1 October 1999 to 1 April 2005. A date-of-birth block, not a birthday count, is what the notice uses. Check yours against the block in the current notice.
The services do not all use the same window, as these 2026 notices show.
| Service and notice | Age rule as published |
|---|---|
| Army brochure | 17½ to 21 years |
| Navy Agniveer SSR and MR | 17½ to 22 years on the day of enrolment |
| Air Force Agniveervayu, Intake 02/2027 | Born between 1 July 2005 and 1 January 2010; not above 22 years on the date of enrolment |
| Coast Guard Navik (General Duty), CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027 | Born between 1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009; 3 years’ relaxation for OBC and 5 years for SC and ST |
We did not find an Army statement of category-wise age relaxation for Agniveer entries. The Air Force FAQ says there is no age relaxation for graduates or postgraduates. If you belong to a reserved category, read the age clause of the notice you are applying to.
What are the stages of Army selection?
The Army Recruiting Office, Mumbai, described the present order in a PIB release of 13 July 2026: first the online Common Entrance Examination, then, for shortlisted candidates, admit cards for the Physical Fitness Test, the Physical Measurement Test, other physical efficiency events and the medical examination, with documents checked at the rally. In the 2022-23 notification the order was the reverse, with the rally first and the written test after it, so be careful with older guides.
| Stage | What it involves | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Online on the Army recruitment portal. For recruiting year 2025-26 the Army said candidates could apply for any two categories they were eligible for, and that the CEE would be held in 13 languages. | Army press release, 2025 |
| Common Entrance Examination | Online. In 2026 it was held from 1 to 12 June, with the category-wise dates on the Army’s schedule page. | Army portal |

Which bonus marks can improve your merit?
PIB reported in February 2024 that bonus marks are given for sportspersons, NCC certificate holders, and ITI and diploma holders in the online CEE, and that a typing test was introduced for Office Assistant and Store Keeper Technical. The 2022-23 notice set out the marks.
| Claim | Bonus marks (2022-23 notice) |
|---|---|
| Son of serviceman, ex-serviceman, war widow or widow of ex-serviceman | 20 |
| Sportsman at international level | 20 |
| Sportsman at State senior or junior national level, with a medal or up to 8th position in a team event | 15 |
| NCC ‘A’ certificate | 5 |
| NCC ‘B’ certificate | 10 |
| NCC ‘C’ certificate | Exempted from the CEE for General Duty and Tradesman; 15 marks for Clerk, Store Keeper and Technical |
| ITI one year, two years, or diploma (Technical category) | 30, 40 and 50 |
| NIELIT ‘O’ level IT certificate (Clerk and Store Keeper) | 15 |
The notice caps the total bonus at 20 marks for most categories and at 50 for Agniveer Technical, even if a candidate qualifies for more than one type.

Which documents should you collect early?
The 2022-23 rally notice asked for originals with two attested photocopies: the printed admit card, passport photographs, education certificates with marksheets, a domicile certificate issued by the District Magistrate, caste and religion certificates where relevant, a school character certificate, a character certificate from the village head or municipal body issued within six months, an unmarried certificate, NCC and sports certificates where claimed, a notarised affidavit, and a bank account, PAN and Aadhaar for final enrolment. A candidate who could not produce the affidavit was not allowed into the rally. Start collecting certificates well before registration opens, because a delay in a government office is the most common reason people miss a rally.
