Agniveer Clerk and Store Keeper Technical needs Class 12 in any stream with 60% aggregate, at least 50% in each subject, and 50% in English and in Mathematics, Accounts or Book Keeping, as the Army has asked. Technical needs Class 12 Science with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, and Tradesman needs a Class 10 or Class 8 pass. This guide takes the three groups one by one, with the extras that General Duty pages skip.
What does Agniveer Clerk and Store Keeper Technical need?
The Army’s 2022-23 notification asked for Class 12 or Intermediate in any stream, Arts, Commerce or Science, with 60% marks in aggregate and a minimum of 50% in each subject. It also said that 50% in English and in Mathematics, Accounts or Book Keeping in Class 12 is mandatory. That last line is the one candidates miss: an overall 62% does not help if English is 48%.
Two extras apply to this category. PIB reported in February 2024 that a typing test was introduced for the Office Assistant and Store Keeper Technical category in the online CEE. And the 2022-23 notice gave 15 bonus marks to a candidate holding the NIELIT ‘O’ level IT certificate, or a higher NIELIT level, issued on or after 1 January 2020. Candidates in this category only need to qualify in the Physical Fitness Test, not to score in it.
What does Agniveer Technical need?
The Army asked for Class 12 or Intermediate in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, with 50% aggregate and 40% in each subject. A second option was the same Class 12 Science with a one-year ITI course in the required field at NSQF level 4 or above. Technical candidates also qualify rather than score in the fitness test, and they gain the most from bonus marks: 30 for a one-year ITI, 40 for a two-year ITI and 50 for a diploma, with a ceiling of 50 marks on the total.
What is the difference between Tradesman 10th and 8th pass?
| Tradesman, 10th pass | Tradesman, 8th pass | |
|---|---|---|
| Education | Class 10 simple pass | Class 8 simple pass |
| Marks | No aggregate; at least 33% in each subject | No aggregate; at least 33% in each subject |
| 2026 CEE dates | 1 to 8 June 2026 together with General Duty | 9, 10 and 12 June 2026 |
| After service | Class 12 equivalent certificate for those who enrolled after Class 10, as the 2022-23 notice states | PIB, March 2026: a NIOS Class 10 certificate for those who enrolled with Class 8 |
A Class 8 Tradesman is on the same Agniveer package as everyone else. The notice sets the customised package, from ₹30,000 a month in year 1 to ₹40,000 in year 4, for Agniveers in general and does not give a separate figure by trade. See our Agniveer salary guide.
Age is 17½ to 21 years in the Army’s brochure, with the exact date-of-birth block printed in the current notice. The 2022-23 notice did not print a height table; it refers to policy in vogue, so check the Physical Measurement standard of your year. These figures are from the Army’s Agnipath rally notification for 2022-23, the most recent complete Army notification we could read in full. The Army revises dates, age and marks rules from cycle to cycle, so read the notice of your own year before you apply.

What should you study for each group?
| Group | Study focus (our advice, at the education level the Army asks for) |
|---|---|
| Clerk and Store Keeper Technical | Class 12 English and Mathematics or Accounts; general knowledge; typing practice on a keyboard for speed and accuracy. |
| Technical | Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; English; ITI or diploma subjects only for the bonus, not for the paper. |
| Tradesman 10th | Class 10 Mathematics, general science and general knowledge. |
| Tradesman 8th | Class 8 arithmetic, general science, and general knowledge in simple language. |
The Army prints the actual syllabus and pattern in the notice of the year. The table is a study guide built on the education level, not a copy of that syllabus.
Which of the three is right for you?
| If you have | Look at | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Class 8 pass | Agniveer Tradesman, 8th pass | 33% in each subject; the CEE for this category was held on 9, 10 and 12 June 2026. |
| Class 10 pass with 45% aggregate and 33% in each subject | Agniveer General Duty or Tradesman, 10th pass | General Duty is the largest entry, so read its physical scoring in our Army physical test guide. |
| Class 12 Science with PCM and English at 50% and 40% | Agniveer Technical | Bonus marks for ITI and diploma can be worth up to 50 marks. |
| Class 12 in Arts, Commerce or Science at 60% and 50% | Agniveer Clerk and Store Keeper Technical | English and Mathematics, Accounts or Book Keeping at 50% each, and a typing test. |
What mistakes do candidates make in these categories?
- Reading only the overall percentage. The Army also fixes a minimum in each subject, and for Clerk a separate minimum in English and in Mathematics, Accounts or Book Keeping.
- Assuming ITI helps everyone. The extra marks are for the categories the notice names, and the one-year ITI route for Technical needs NSQF level 4 or above.
- Ignoring typing. A candidate who types slowly should practise on a real keyboard from the first week.
- Collecting documents late. A domicile, character or caste certificate from a government office can take weeks, and the rally does not wait.
- Choosing a category only for its name. Choose the one you can qualify in on marks, height and medical, and then prepare for that paper.
