What is Coast Guard Navik, and who is the batch for?
Navik is the Indian Coast Guard’s sailor-level entry among its enrolled personnel. The Coast Guard recruits Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik through its own CGEPT process, which is separate from the Agnipath scheme. Our Coast Guard Navik coaching in Dehradun is a residential classroom batch for Class 10 and Class 12 students, and diploma holders, who want to serve at sea in the Coast Guard.
General Duty is for Class 12 students with Mathematics and Physics, and is the one entry open to women. Domestic Branch is for Class 10 passes. Yantrik is the technical entry for Class 10 plus an approved engineering diploma. Because a single notice covers all three, the first job is choosing the entry that matches your certificates. Coast Guard recruitment is not part of Agnipath, but many students compare it with the Army, Navy and Air Force entries; our all-forces Agniveer page covers that comparison.
Coast Guard Navik eligibility
The details below are from the CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027 notice, which we read in October 2026. The notice calls its exam dates tentative, and each batch has its own notice, so read the one you apply under.
| Entry | Qualification | Born between | Who can apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Navik (General Duty) | Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics, COBSE-recognised board | 1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009 | Men and women |
| Navik (Domestic Branch) | Class 10, COBSE-recognised board | 1 November 2005 and 1 October 2009 | Men only |
| Yantrik | Class 10 plus a 3- or 4-year AICTE-approved diploma in electrical, mechanical or electronics and telecommunication (radio/power) engineering, or the listed equivalents | 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009 | Men only |
Age is a birth-date window, not an age on a reference date. The notice gives 3 years’ relaxation for OBC and 5 years for SC and ST candidates. Candidates from open-school boards that are not recognised by AICTE or COBSE are not eligible, and certificates must have been issued on or before the closing date. The notice printed an application window of 6 to 21 October 2026 and an exam fee of Rs 550, with SC and ST candidates exempt. If that window has passed when you read this, watch the Coast Guard portal for the next batch. Our Navik eligibility guide has the full table.
Coast Guard Navik exam pattern: Stage I
| Feature | CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027 notice |
|---|---|
| Mode | Computer-based examination |
| Questions and marks | 100 multiple-choice questions, one mark each |
| Duration | One hour |
| Language | Hindi and English |
| Negative marking | None |
| Passing marks | 40 for UR, EWS and OBC; 35 for SC and ST |
| Shifts | Marks are normalised if there is more than one shift |
One hour for 100 questions leaves about 36 seconds a question, which is the pace to practise at. The notice states there is no negative marking, so every question should be attempted. The detailed syllabus for each post sits in the information brochure that the notice points to, and we do not print a topic list we could not match to it. Navik GD, DB and Yantrik are different entries with different qualifying levels, so do not assume the three papers are identical. Our Navik syllabus and pattern guide explains how to build a study sheet from the brochure.
Timing deserves a note. The notice we read set Stage I for early to mid November 2026, Stage II for the end of February 2027, and Stage III at INS Chilka for May 2027 (batch 01/2027) or October 2027 (batch 02/2027), all described as tentative. Yantrik selection is for batch 01/2027 only and Navik (Domestic Branch) is for batch 02/2027 only; Navik (General Duty) candidates are placed in either batch by merit and administrative need. A student who is a year or two away from eligibility, or who misses a window, should therefore use the gap to build skills, and to check each new notice afresh for dates and conditions.
Merit is built from your Stage I marks, provided you qualify in every part of Stage II, and the assessment test marks are used only to break ties. That is why Stage I preparation carries so much weight, and why the physical test must be a clean pass rather than an afterthought. Candidates who are physically strong but weak in Mathematics lose out as surely as those who study well but cannot finish the run in time.
Selection stages and the physical test
- Stage I. The computer-based written test described above.
- Stage II. At a recruitment centre for shortlisted candidates: identity checks, the physical fitness test, an assessment and adaptability test, document verification and the recruitment medical. All of it is qualifying.
- Stage III. At INS Chilka for candidates standing in merit: document verification, pre-enrolment medicals and police verification forms.
- Stage IV. Authentication of your original certificates with the boards and universities.
| Physical fitness test | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km run | 6 min 30 sec | 8 min |
| Squats | 20 | 15 |
| Push-ups | 15 | 10 |
| Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | 10 |
The four exercises are done one after another without a break, and the notice says a break means failing the test. The notice sets minimum height at 157 cm for men and 152 cm for women, reduced by up to 5 cm for candidates with a domicile of Garhwal or Kumaon, among other regions, if the domicile certificate is shown to the medical officer. Eyesight standards differ by entry, and for General Duty candidates who use glasses are not eligible. Persons with any kind of disability are not eligible to apply under this notice.
How the Dehradun programme prepares you
The batch is classroom-based, and there are no online classes. In general terms it covers:
- Choosing the entry. Checking your marksheets, diploma and date of birth against the notice before you pay any fee.
- Stage I preparation. Class-level revision of Mathematics, Physics and general topics at the level of your chosen entry, with timed 100-question practice sets and error review.
- Physical test planning. Guidance on training toward the 1.6 km run and the continuous exercise set. Ask the counselling team how physical preparation is organised before you enrol.
- Documents. A checklist that matches the notice, including certificate dates and validity, since these are verified at the last stage.
A student who passed Class 12 two years ago should refresh Mathematics and Physics from the textbook before touching practice books, while a Class 10 candidate should begin with arithmetic speed and reading. Call or WhatsApp +91 70170 31757 for free counselling. Selection is by the Coast Guard alone, and we do not promise it.
