Coast Guard Navik (GD, DB) and Yantrik: Eligibility, Age and Selection Stages

Navik GD, Navik DB and Yantrik eligibility in one place: qualification, birth-date window, gender, height, the four selection stages and the cycle open in October 2026.

8 min read Last reviewed Reviewed by GS India Defence Academy faculty

Coast Guard Navik eligibility depends on the entry you choose. Navik (General Duty) needs Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics, Navik (Domestic Branch) needs Class 10, and Yantrik needs Class 10 plus an AICTE-approved engineering diploma. Age is set as a birth-date window, and the notice open right now, CGEPT 01/2027 and 02/2027, takes applications from 6 to 21 October 2026.

This guide reads that notice and the Coast Guard’s own pages, not job-alert summaries. A note on independence: GS India Defence Academy is a private coaching academy in Dehradun. We are not part of the Indian Coast Guard, and your advertisement and candidate dashboard override anything written here.

Which Coast Guard enrolled-personnel notice is open right now?

The Coast Guard recruits three kinds of enrolled personnel, Navik (GD), Navik (DB) and Yantrik, and the 2027 notice adds Hygienist-I. We read the notice on 12 October 2026. The dates below are the ones printed in it, and the notice calls the exam dates tentative.

Yantrik selection is for batch 01/2027 only, and Navik (DB) is for batch 02/2027 only. Navik (GD) candidates are placed in either batch by merit and administrative need, and the notice says nobody can claim a particular batch.

Which entry needs which qualification and age?

Navik (General Duty)Class 12 passed with Mathematics and Physics from a board recognised by COBSE1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009Men and women

The Yantrik diploma list is longer than the three headline streams. The notice accepts named equivalents such as marine engineering, production engineering, shipbuilding engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and electronic instrumentation and control engineering. If your diploma has a different name, compare it with that list before you pay the fee.

How is age counted, and what relaxations apply?

The notice does not give an age on a reference date. It gives a window of birth dates for each entry, so your date of birth decides eligibility and nothing else does. Relaxation is 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC and ST candidates. The Coast Guard also says your date of birth and gender cannot be changed at any later stage, and a wrong entry can cancel your candidature at any point, even after enrolment.

Documents carry their own dates. Every certificate you upload must be issued on or before the closing date of the application and must stay valid until at least 31 December 2027. Candidates from open-school boards that are not recognised by AICTE or COBSE are not eligible.

What physical and medical standards apply?

The minimum height can be reduced by up to 5 cm for candidates with a domicile of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Garhwal, Kumaon or Sikkim, and for Gorkhas. The reduction is up to 2 cm for Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Minicoy, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Garhwal and Kumaon are the two regions of Uttarakhand, so families in and around Dehradun should note it. The notice adds that the relaxation is lost if the domicile certificate is not shown to the medical officer. It also states that persons with any kind of disability are not eligible to apply.

What are the four stages after you apply?

  1. Stage I, written test. A computer-based paper of 100 questions with one mark each, one hour long, in Hindi and English, with no negative marking. Passing marks are 40 for UR, EWS and OBC and 35 for SC and ST. See our Navik syllabus and exam pattern guide.
  2. Stage II, recruitment centre. A one- to two-day stage for shortlisted candidates: identity and biometric checks, the physical fitness test, an online or OMR assessment and adaptability test, document verification and the recruitment medical. All of it is qualifying, and you choose a date and centre first come, first served from what is shown.
  3. Stage III, INS Chilka. Candidates who stand in merit report for a one- to two-day stage with an Aadhaar-based identity check, document verification, pre-enrolment medicals and police verification forms.
  4. Stage IV, authentication. The Coast Guard verifies your original certificates with the boards and universities. A candidate whose documents are reported as not genuine is terminated from service.

The four exercises are done one after another without a break, and the notice says a break in between means failing the test. Merit is built from your Stage I marks, provided you qualify in every part of Stage II. The assessment test marks are used only to break ties.

Can girls apply for Coast Guard Navik?

In this notice women can apply for Navik (General Duty) only. Yantrik, Navik (Domestic Branch) and Hygienist-I are listed for men. Women’s vacancies for Navik (GD) are filled on an all-India basis and the minimum height is 152 cm. Candidates who want to compare this with officer entries for women can read our guide to the Coast Guard Assistant Commandant entries.

How does zone-wise selection work for Navik (GD) men?

Vacancies for male Navik (GD) candidates are spread across five zones, and each zone has its own merit list. Your domicile certificate decides your zone. Uttarakhand falls in the North zone. If your zone has no vacancy for your reserved category, you may apply as unreserved, but then you lose age concession, passing-marks relaxation and the fee exemption.

What mistakes get a Navik application cancelled?

  • Filling more than one application. Only the latest is considered, and the fee for the others is not refunded.
  • Entering incomplete or wrong subject marks. The notice asks you to fill the marks of every subject exactly as on the marksheet.
  • Uploading blurred or partly scanned documents. Multi-page documents must be merged into one file.
  • Declaring the wrong category. The notice does not allow a change after submission.
  • Using a certificate issued after the closing date, or one that expires before 31 December 2027.
  • Not having Aadhaar linked to your mobile number. The notice says it is mandatory at Stage III for the bank account and pension number.
