The MNS syllabus depends on the route. For the B.Sc Nursing route after Class 12 it is the NEET (UG) syllabus: Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which the National Medical Commission set for 2026 as 20, 20 and 10 units. For the Short Service Commission for nurses it is a computer-based test on nursing, English language and general intelligence, in English with no negative marking, but the official notices we could read give no question count or marks, so we do not publish a weight table.
That is a deliberate choice. Prep sites print section-wise tables that disagree with one another, and the information bulletin that would settle it was not available to us. GS India Defence Academy is a private coaching academy and not part of the Army or the NTA; read the bulletin for your cycle.
Which MNS syllabus applies to you?
| Route | Test | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| B.Sc Nursing after Class 12 | NEET (UG) | NMC syllabus for 2026; Physics, Chemistry, Biology; the score is used for shortlisting |
| Short Service Commission for nurses | NTA computer-based test | Nursing, English language and general intelligence; English only; no negative marking; 150 minutes (2023-24) |
What is the NEET (UG) 2026 syllabus for the MNS route?
The Under Graduate Medical Education Board of the National Medical Commission published the syllabus on 22 December 2025 and advised aspirants to use it for the 2026-27 session. The unit names are below.
| Subject | Units in the NMC 2026 syllabus |
|---|---|
| Physics (20 units) | Physics and measurement; kinematics; laws of motion; work, energy and power; rotational motion; gravitation; properties of solids and liquids; thermodynamics; kinetic theory of gases; oscillations and waves; electrostatics; current electricity; magnetic effects of current and magnetism; electromagnetic induction and alternating currents; electromagnetic waves; optics; dual nature of matter and radiation; atoms and nuclei; electronic devices; experimental skills |
| Chemistry (20 units) | Some basic concepts in chemistry; atomic structure; chemical bonding and molecular structure; chemical thermodynamics; solutions; equilibrium; redox reactions and electrochemistry; chemical kinetics; classification of elements and periodicity in properties; p-block elements; d- and f-block elements; co-ordination compounds; purification and characterisation of organic compounds; some basic principles of organic chemistry; hydrocarbons; organic compounds containing halogens, oxygen and nitrogen (three units); biomolecules; principles related to practical chemistry |
| Biology (10 units) | Diversity in the living world; structural organisation in animals and plants; cell structure and function; plant physiology; human physiology; reproduction; genetics and evolution; biology and human welfare; biotechnology and its applications; ecology and environment |
The NEET paper itself changes. NTA’s 2024 notice described 200 multiple-choice questions, with 50 each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology and a duration of 3 hours 20 minutes, while NTA’s July 2026 notice refers to 180 answer bubbles on the OMR sheet. Do not rely on the 2024 numbers; read the 2026 information bulletin on the NEET website for the pattern you will face.

| Feature | 2023-24 NTA notice |

| Subjects | Multiple-choice questions based on nursing, English language and general intelligence |

Several guides state numbers such as how many questions each section carries and the marks of each, and the figures differ from one guide to another. Until you have the bulletin of the cycle you are applying in, treat any weight table as unverified. What you can rely on is the structure: three areas, one language, no penalty for wrong answers, and 150 minutes.
How should you build a nursing revision plan?
The notice says questions are based on nursing, so the safest base is what you studied for your own qualification. Make a table of the subjects in your B.Sc, Post Basic B.Sc or M.Sc programme. Mark the last date you revised each, and put the oldest at the top. Add clinical areas you worked in, because those are the ones you can recall fastest, and then spend the remaining time on the areas you worked in least.
- Revise in short topic blocks with a timed set at the end of each block.
- Keep a notebook of drug classes, procedures and definitions you confuse, and revisit it weekly.
- Time yourself: at 150 minutes for the whole paper, you need an average pace you can state in seconds per question once you know the question count from the bulletin.
- Take one full paper on a computer every week in the last month.

How should you handle English language and general intelligence?
English language questions usually reward steady reading. Read one passage a day and note the words you did not know. General intelligence is about reasoning with patterns, series, coding and relationships; a notebook of solved patterns helps. Because the test is English only, a candidate who studied in another language should practise reading English clinical text under time. Both areas improve fastest with daily short sessions rather than weekend marathons.
Which route should you prepare for first?
If you are in Class 11 or 12, the NEET syllabus is your plan, and our MNS B.Sc Nursing guide explains how it connects to shortlisting. If you are a qualified nurse, our MNS SSC guide shows the last official cycle. The MNS eligibility hub compares both.
How should you read any syllabus list you find online?
Check four things: the year, the source, whether it names the test it belongs to, and whether it matches the bulletin. A list that mixes the NEET syllabus with the nurses’ test, or that quotes marks without a bulletin, is a guess. Save the official PDF, note its page numbers in your own notes, and revisit it each month, because bulletins are updated between cycles and old copies circulate for years.
