MNS SSC is the Short Service Commission in the Military Nursing Service for qualified nurses. In its last NTA cycle, 2023-24, Indian women aged 21 to 35 with a B.Sc, Post Basic B.Sc or M.Sc in Nursing took a computer-based test on nursing, English language and general intelligence, then an interview with a 50% qualifying mark, then a medical. We found no newer official notice on 12 October 2026, so the dates below are history, not a calendar.
GS India Defence Academy is a private coaching academy and not part of the Army or the NTA. The Army’s recruitment page for the service opens behind a verification step that we did not bypass; the facts below come from the NTA’s public notices and the instructions it published for the interview stage.

The NTA’s SSC MNS portal page did not load when we tried it, and our searches turned up no newer NTA notice. Sites that print 2026 dates for this entry cite no official document, so treat those dates as unconfirmed until the NTA or the Army publishes them. Our MNS eligibility hub covers the other entry, B.Sc Nursing through NEET.
Who can apply for the MNS Short Service Commission?
- Indian women only, aged between 21 and 35 years on the date prescribed for receiving applications, in the 2023-24 notice.
- Civil-trained nurses holding a B.Sc (Nursing), Post Basic B.Sc (Nursing) or M.Sc (Nursing), as the interview instructions describe the intake.
- A valid State Nursing Council registration, which is among the documents checked at the interview.
- A no-objection certificate from the present employer, if the candidate is employed.
The NTA’s correction notice shows the application asked for B.Sc, Post Basic B.Sc and M.Sc details and for work experience. It let candidates change any two of name, father’s name, mother’s name, husband’s name or date of birth, and it did not let them change the mobile number, email address, examination city or addresses.
What are the three stages of MNS SSC selection?
| Stage | What the NTA notices say |
|---|---|
| Computer-based test | Multiple-choice questions on nursing, English language and general intelligence; English only; no negative marking; 150 minutes |
| Interview | Held at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment; candidates report at 7:00 am with the call letter in triplicate, original documents and 10 coloured passport-size photographs |
| Medical | Only candidates who obtained 50% in the interview, stated as 10 marks and above, are medically examined; late arrivals are not entertained |
The notices do not print the number of questions or the marks of each section of the test, and prep sites disagree about both. Our MNS syllabus and exam pattern guide explains what we can and cannot confirm.
How should you prepare for the MNS interview?
The interview instructions are unusually specific, and most of the preparation is administrative. Candidates fill a structured personal proforma and hand it to the nursing officer in charge at the reception desk, and the board then speaks to them. The listed documents are a good checklist even for a later cycle.
- Matriculation or school leaving certificate showing the date of birth.
- B.Sc (N), Post Basic B.Sc (N) or M.Sc (N) passing certificates and mark lists.
- State Nursing Council registration, with any additional qualification registrations.
- The NTA score card, NCC certificate if any, and an experience certificate if any.
- A character certificate from a gazetted officer, magistrate, police officer, school or college principal, or the present employer.
- Proof of Indian nationality, a copy of the Aadhaar card, and the employer’s no-objection certificate if employed.
- A self-addressed envelope with a Rs 50 postal stamp for the appointment letter, if selected.
- A copy of the release order if you served in the Military Nursing Service before, and the Gazette notification or government identity if your name changed.
Beyond paperwork, rehearse the answers you would give about why you want to serve, how your clinical experience would apply in a military hospital, and how you would handle postings away from home. A counsellor can run a mock conversation with you: call or WhatsApp +91 70170 31757 for free counselling.
How should you prepare for the computer-based test?
The test draws on the nursing you already studied, plus English language and general intelligence. A practical plan is to list the nursing subjects of your own degree, rank them by how recently you studied them, and give the oldest ones the first revision slots. Practise English comprehension and grammar in short daily sets, and add reasoning puzzles two or three times a week. Practise on a computer, because moving between questions on screen feels different from a paper.
Because the test has no negative marking, attempt every question. And since the interview carries a qualifying mark, do not treat the written score as the whole selection; the final merit depends on all the stages the Army publishes for that year.
What should a candidate do while waiting for the next notice?
Keep the State Nursing Council registration valid, keep a clean file of every certificate with copies, and keep your name identical across documents, because a mismatch between the application and an original is a common reason for rejection in recruitment processes. Revise nursing in short blocks, read English daily and keep your fitness up. Check the NTA and Army websites every week during the usual application season.
