A Coast Guard Navik (General Duty or Domestic Branch) starts at basic pay of Rs 21,700 in Pay Level 3, plus dearness allowance and other allowances. A Yantrik starts at Rs 29,200 in Pay Level 5, plus Yantrik pay of Rs 6,200, dearness allowance and other allowances. The Coast Guard’s own pay page says promotion can take a Navik up to Pradhan Adhikari at Pay Level 8, with basic pay of Rs 47,600.
We quote only figures printed on the Coast Guard’s pay and rank pages and in the CGEPT 2027 notice. The page itself warns that pay and allowances change with government directives, so a recruit should always read the offer and the current notice.
What is the starting pay for Navik, Yantrik and Hygienist-I?
| Entry | Pay level | Basic pay on joining | Added to it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Navik (General Duty) | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 | Dearness allowance and other allowances by nature of duty and place of posting |
| Navik (Domestic Branch) | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 | Dearness allowance and other allowances by nature of duty and place of posting |
| Yantrik | Level 5 | Rs 29,200 | Yantrik pay of Rs 6,200, dearness allowance and other allowances |
| Hygienist-I (2027 notice) | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 | Dearness allowance and other allowances |
Yantrik pay is a separate payment on top of basic pay. The Coast Guard shows it in the rank structure as basic pay at a level plus Rs 6,200, and it stays at the same amount through the Yantrik ranks.
How does pay rise with each rank?
| Navik (GD and DB) rank | Pay level | Yantrik rank | Pay level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Navik | 3 | Yantrik | 5 plus Yantrik pay |
| Uttam Navik | 4 | Uttam Yantrik | 5 plus Yantrik pay |
| Pradhan Navik | 5 | Pradhan Yantrik | 6 plus Yantrik pay |
| Adhikari | 6 | Sahayak Engineer | 6 plus Yantrik pay |
| Uttam Adhikari | 7 | Uttam Sahayak Engineer | 7 plus Yantrik pay |
| Pradhan Adhikari | 8 (Rs 47,600) | Pradhan Sahayak Engineer | 8 (Rs 47,600) plus Yantrik pay |
The pay page names Rs 47,600 at Level 8 as the ceiling for both lines, with dearness allowance on top and, for Yantriks, Rs 6,200 of Yantrik pay. It adds that promotion to the officer cadre depends on suitability and performance. It does not print the rupee values of Levels 4, 6 and 7, so we do not either.
How do you estimate in-hand salary for a Navik?
No honest number for take-home pay can be printed without the current dearness allowance rate, the posting and the deductions, and the Coast Guard publishes none of them on its recruitment pages. Use this method instead.
- Start with basic pay from the table above.
- Add dearness allowance at the rate currently notified by the government. Multiply basic pay by the rate and divide by 100.
- Add the allowances your posting attracts. The notice says they depend on the nature of duty and the place of posting.
- Subtract your contribution to the pension scheme the notice names, the National Pension Scheme or the Unified Pension Scheme, and the fixed monthly contribution for group insurance.
- Compare the result with the pay slip your unit shows you, and keep that, not an internet figure, as your reference.
If you want to talk through what an offer means for your family, call or WhatsApp +91 70170 31757 for free counselling. We are a coaching academy, not a pay office, so we will send you back to the Coast Guard’s own pages for the final figure.
What benefits come with the pay?
- Free ration and clothing as per existing rules.
- Free medical treatment in military hospitals for the recruit and family, including dependent parents.
- Government accommodation or house rent allowance.
- 45 days of earned leave and 8 days of casual leave a year, with leave travel concession for self, family and dependent parents.
- Pension under the National Pension Scheme or the Unified Pension Scheme, and gratuity on retirement.
- Canteen (CSD) facilities, loan facilities and ECHS medical cover after retirement.
- Insurance cover of Rs 75 lakh from the Naval Group Insurance Fund against a fixed compulsory monthly contribution.
The notice states that pay, perks, promotion, insurance cover and other benefits can change under government orders. The 2027 notice does not give a separate stipend figure for the months of basic training at INS Chilka, so we have not either.
How does this compare with an officer’s pay?
Assistant Commandant, the entry-level officer rank, starts at Pay Level 10 with basic pay of Rs 56,100, according to the Coast Guard’s officer pay page. That is a different entry, with a graduate degree, an all-India test, two selection boards and a medical. Our guide to the Coast Guard Assistant Commandant entries covers it. A Navik can also be considered for the officer cadre later, subject to suitability and performance, as the pay page notes.
What do the official figures add up to on day one?
Simple arithmetic on the printed numbers helps a family compare entries. A Navik begins at Rs 21,700 of basic pay. A Yantrik begins at Rs 29,200 of basic pay and also receives Rs 6,200 of Yantrik pay, so the two fixed components together are Rs 35,400 before dearness allowance and other allowances. That is Rs 13,700 more than a Navik’s basic pay on the first day, and the Yantrik entry asks for a technical diploma on top of Class 10 and has its own pay structure.
At the top of the enrolled ladder both lines reach Rs 47,600 of basic pay at Level 8. Compared with the starting point, that is Rs 25,900 more for a Navik and Rs 18,400 more for a Yantrik on the basic component alone. The Yantrik still receives Rs 6,200 of Yantrik pay at every rank. These are differences in the printed fixed amounts, not forecasts of what any person will take home, because posting allowances and dearness allowance are not in the table.
What should you ask the recruiting unit about pay?
- Which allowances apply to your first posting, and which stop when the posting changes.
- The rate of dearness allowance used on your first pay slip.
- The monthly deductions for the pension scheme and for the group insurance contribution.
- Whether any stipend is paid during basic training at INS Chilka, because the 2027 notice does not state one.
- The date from which basic pay starts, and the first month in which the pay slip is issued.
Write the answers down at the time. If a coaching centre, an agent or a website quotes a figure that is higher than the Coast Guard’s own pages without naming a source, ask for the document. The Coast Guard says in its advertisements that selection is on merit only and warns candidates not to fall for persons posing as recruitment agents.
