Sainik School coaching for the Class 6 and Class 9 entrance

Sainik Schools are residential schools that prepare boys, and in recent years girls, for a career as officers in the armed forces. Admission to Class 6 and Class 9 in these schools runs through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination, or AISSEE, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency. For a family with a child in Class 5 or Class 8, the exam is the first real step on the defence path, and it is held once a year.

Our Sainik School coaching in Dehradun prepares students for the AISSEE through in-person classes at Street 1, Subharti Road, Nanda Ki Chowki, Lower Kolhupani. We do not run online classes. The aim is to help the child understand concepts and write the paper calmly, because a pen-and-paper OMR test rewards care, speed and accuracy in equal measure. This page explains the exam, the age rules and how the programme works.

The course suits:

  • students in Class 5 who want to apply for Class 6 entry
  • students in Class 8 who want to apply for Class 9 entry
  • families who would like a short commute to class and a structured study routine
  • parents who are weighing the Sainik School option against RIMC or the Rashtriya Military Schools

We keep the plan honest. A Sainik School seat is limited, the child will be competing nationally, and the preparation should be paced so that school marks and personal well-being do not suffer. Parents who are not sure which class to target can talk to a counsellor before enrolling.

AISSEE eligibility: age, class and girls’ admission

The National Testing Agency conducts the AISSEE for admission to Class 6 and Class 9 in Sainik Schools and approved New Sainik Schools. The AISSEE-2026 information bulletin, issued for the academic year 2026-27, sets the following conditions. The age is counted as on 31 March of the admission year.

ConditionAISSEE-2026 information bulletin
Class 6Between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2026, that is, born between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2016, both days inclusive
Class 9Between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2026, that is, born between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2013, both days inclusive; Class 8 must be passed from a recognised school at the time of admission
GirlsAdmission for girls is open in Class 6, with the same age criteria as boys; for Class 9, admission is open to girls subject to the availability of vacancies
Mode of examPaper and pencil on OMR answer sheets, with multiple-choice questions, for both classes
DatesThe exam was held on 18 January 2026; the online application window ran from 10 to 30 October 2025

Eligibility for the approved New Sainik Schools, which follow their own admission policy, is detailed separately in the bulletin. Dehradun is among the examination cities listed for AISSEE-2026. Because the age window is tied to a date in March, a family planning for the next cycle should work out the child’s birth-date window from that year’s bulletin, and not from last year’s. Last year the application window opened in the second week of October and closed three weeks later, so it is worth checking the NTA portal this month. NTA’s tentative calendar, published on 16 September 2026, lists AISSEE 2027 on 31 January 2027; confirm the date on the official notice.

The AISSEE scheme of examination

Both papers are multiple choice and answered on an OMR sheet. The bulletin gives the following scheme, and it states that there is no negative marking for a wrong response.

Class 6 paper: 125 questions, 300 marks, 150 minutes

SectionTopicQuestionsMarks per correct answerTotal marks
ALanguage25250
BMathematics503150
CIntelligence25250
DGeneral Knowledge25250

Class 9 paper: 150 questions, 400 marks, 180 minutes

SectionTopicQuestionsMarks per correct answerTotal marks
AMathematics504200
BIntelligence25250
CEnglish25250
DGeneral Science25250
ESocial Science25250

The Class 9 paper is in English only. For Class 6, the bulletin lists thirteen languages, including English, Hindi and several regional languages, and the choice is made at the time of application and cannot be changed. Candidates who choose English or Hindi receive a bilingual booklet.

The numbers tell you where the marks are. Mathematics carries half the Class 6 paper and half the Class 9 paper, so it is the subject where a child’s preparation pays off most. Since nothing is deducted for wrong answers, a child should attempt every question, and the skill to build is speed with care, not caution. We teach children to read a question once properly, to mark the OMR sheet neatly, and to use the last minutes to attempt what is left. Our mock papers follow this layout, and we revise every paper in class, question by question.

How the Sainik School batch is organised

The plan is designed to be age-appropriate. Classes are short, concepts are explained patiently, and practice is varied, so that a ten-year-old and a thirteen-year-old are both challenged but not overwhelmed.

  • Mathematics: arithmetic, fractions, decimals, ratio, percentages, geometry and word problems for Class 6 aspirants; algebra, mensuration, data handling and geometry for Class 9 aspirants
  • Language and English: reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and short writing tasks
  • General knowledge and science: India, the world, everyday science and the work of the armed forces, taught through discussion and short quizzes
  • Reasoning and intelligence tests: patterns, series, analogies and classification, practised in short timed sets
  • Mock tests: OMR-style papers in the exam format, with analysis
  • Fitness: regular physical activity, because Sainik Schools value a healthy, disciplined routine

Batch timings and durations are confirmed at counselling, and we are happy to talk to parents about how to balance coaching with school homework.

Fees for Sainik School coaching

The fee table for the Sainik School course is shown further down this page. A one-month crash course is also available for students near the exam. The fee structure page explains registration and other charges in one place. We suggest asking for the batch dates and the duration that matches your child’s school calendar before you decide.

Hostel and mess for outstation students

Most Sainik School aspirants are young, and most attend as day scholars. For families who live outside Dehradun, the academy has separate hostels for boys and girls and a mess. We encourage parents to visit first, during counselling, see the arrangements and ask everything they need to before any decision about a child of this age. Details are on the hostel and mess page, and the contact page gives directions.
