A technical officer’s entry straight after Class 12
Some of the best-known officer routes do not need a graduation first. The Army’s Technical Entry Scheme, or TES, and the Navy’s 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry take students who have finished Class 12 with science and train them as officers while they earn an engineering degree. For an aspirant who is good at Physics and Mathematics, and who wants a uniform and a technical career together, these are among the most attractive options.
The main hurdle has two parts. The first is JEE Main, which both entries use to shortlist candidates. The second is the Services Selection Board, which is where the real selection happens. Our programme here is built around that second part. We do not pretend to replace the school or tutor who is preparing you for JEE Main; instead, we help you with the SSB, with fitness and with the personality that the board looks for. Classes are held in person at Street 1, Subharti Road, Nanda Ki Chowki, Lower Kolhupani, Dehradun, and we do not offer online classes.
Families searching for TES coaching in Dehradun, or Navy B.Tech entry coaching, usually want a place where the student can prepare for the board in a focused way for a few weeks. This course is meant for:
- students who have appeared in JEE Main and expect to be shortlisted for an SSB call
- Class 12 students who want to begin SSB habits in advance
- candidates who have been to an SSB once and want to correct what went wrong
- families who would like the student to stay in the academy’s hostel during the preparation
If you are also exploring other officer routes, our NDA coaching and SSB interview coaching pages explain how those fit together.
What the official sources say about these two entries
Both services publish a fresh advertisement for each course, and the age limits, marks and dates are stated there. We do not quote a figure unless we can point to its source, and we encourage you to read the current advertisement before you apply. The following points come from the official pages.
| Point | Indian Army TES | Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry |
|---|---|---|
| JEE Main | Made compulsory for the TES course, in addition to the minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 | A JEE (Main) rank is compulsory to apply; the rank remains valid for one year from the date of declaration |
| Shortlisting | Candidates are shortlisted for the SSB on the basis of the criteria in the notification | Candidates are shortlisted for the SSB on their JEE (Main) All India Rank |
| Class 12 marks | Minimum marks in PCM, as set in the notification | 70% in PCM and 50% in English in Class 10 or Class 12, as stated on the Navy’s pages for earlier batches |
| Degree and training | Officer cadets train as per the notification | A four-year B.Tech at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala |
| Intake | As notified | Opened twice a year, for the spring and autumn terms |
Age, marital status and the minimum marks in each notification have changed over the years, so please confirm them before you plan. The Army’s SSB selection centres are listed at Allahabad (Prayagraj), Bhopal, Bangalore and Kapurthala. The Navy’s pages describe the next stage as an SSB followed by a medical examination, with induction on the basis of all-India merit.

How selection works after JEE Main
For both entries, the sequence is JEE Main score, then shortlisting, then SSB, then medical, then merit. There is no separate written paper conducted by the service for these entries, which is why the SSB carries so much weight.
| Stage | What it involves | How we prepare |
|---|---|---|
| JEE Main | Taken in school or with your own tutor; this is the shortlisting criterion | Not taught here; we suggest you keep your JEE Main preparation on track |
| SSB | Screening, psychology tests, group tasks and a personal interview, spread over several days | The core of our programme |
| Medical | Fitness examination at a military hospital | Early guidance on eyesight, height and weight |
| Merit | Ranking of candidates who clear every stage | Honest feedback and a plan for the next attempt |
Because the entries are so competitive, candidates who clear JEE Main but struggle at the SSB are common. A technical student who is used to numbers can find the psychology tests unfamiliar, and group tasks can feel odd to a student who has spent two years in front of a problem set. Our SSB programme addresses exactly this gap.

SSB preparation for technical entries
The board is the same kind of board that NDA and CDS candidates face. It starts with a screening stage, goes on to psychology tests, group tasks and a personal interview, and ends with a conference. For a student coming from the JEE Main world, we focus on four habits.
Think in stories, not only formulas
The picture-based and word-association tests reward natural, quick, positive thinking. We practise writing short stories with a clear hero and an action, under time limits, until the process feels normal.
Speak in a group
Group discussions and planning exercises test whether you can be heard without drowning others out. We rehearse them with small groups and give each student individual notes.
Be fit and ready outdoors
The outdoor tasks need basic fitness and confidence. Physical training builds both, and we rehearse the format of the tasks outdoors.
Know your own story
The personal interview is about you: your school, family, hobbies, reasons for choosing the forces and current affairs. We practise with a mentor so that your answers are honest and clear. The stand-alone SSB interview coaching page describes the format of the batches.
The TES and Navy B.Tech batch
This programme is short and intensive, and it uses the same batch formats as our SSB course. The batch includes the following, and the plan for your batch is shared at counselling.
- Physical training: running, strength and flexibility work
- Psychology writing: timed tests with individual feedback
- Group tasks: discussion, planning and outdoor exercises
- Interview practice: mock interviews with a mentor
- Revision of current affairs: short briefings on the news that matters for the board
Students who still have JEE Main or board exams to write should discuss timing with the counsellor before enrolling. Exact schedules and batch dates are confirmed at counselling.
Fees for the TES and Navy B.Tech programme
Because these entries are JEE Main-based, the coaching here is SSB preparation, and the fee table on this page follows the SSB batch options, with and without hostel. The fee structure page explains registration and the other charges in one place. A counsellor can help you decide between a shorter and a longer batch.
Hostel and mess
Candidates who travel to Dehradun can stay in the academy’s hostel for the duration of the batch. The academy has separate hostels for boys and girls and a mess, and day scholars are welcome. The hostel and mess page has the details, and the contact page explains how to reach us from the station, the ISBT and the airport.
