2 AFSB is the Air Force Selection Board at Chamundi Vihar Complex, Siddhartha Nagar, Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka 570011. Most of what trips candidates up at this board is not the tests. It is the paperwork, the photographs, the bank account for the fare claim and the arrival time. This guide is built around those, using the Indian Air Force’s AFCAT guidelines, its contact page and the latest AFCAT notification.
GS India Defence Academy is an independent coaching academy in Dehradun. We are not part of the Indian Air Force and have no link with any selection board. If the advertisement for your entry or your call-up letter says something different from this guide, they are the ones that bind you.
Where is 2 AFSB Mysuru and how do you get a date?
The IAF’s AFCAT portal lists five boards: Dehradun (1 AFSB), Mysuru (2 AFSB), Gandhinagar (3 AFSB), Varanasi (4 AFSB) and Guwahati (5 AFSB). A candidate who clears the written AFCAT picks an AFSB date and venue on the AFCAT website; that choice generates the call-up letter. You may already know Mysuru as an AFCAT examination city, since Mysuru (Mysore) appears in the list of centres for the August 2026 test. The online examination centre and the selection board are different places, so do not confuse the two on your letter.

Which documents does 2 AFSB check?
The guidelines list the documents that are checked and returned after verification. Candidates who do not have them, or who do not meet the eligibility conditions, are told not to report at all: they will not be accepted for the tests and are routed back without a travel allowance. Sort them into a folder in this order.
| Document | What the guidelines say |
|---|---|
| AFCAT admit card and call-up letter | The letter is your authority to report; hand it over on arrival |
| Matriculation or Secondary School certificate with mark sheet | Original, from CBSE, ICSE or a State board. No other certificate is accepted for date of birth |
| Class 12 mark sheet and certificate | Original, from the relevant board |
| Graduation or post-graduation degree and mark sheets | Original or provisional degree with mark sheets of each year or semester. A provisional certificate from the college Principal is not acceptable, but a provisional degree certificate issued by the university is |
| Final-year students | A certificate from the Principal, with stamp and seal, giving the college, the university, the discipline, the aggregate percentage and the likely date of declaration of the final result in DD/MM/YYYY format |
| Attested photocopies | Two attested photocopies of each certificate above |
| NCC certificate, employer’s NOC, pilot licence | Original NCC certificate if applicable; a no-objection certificate if you work for a Central or State government body or a public sector undertaking; the original DGCA commercial pilot licence if you claim it |
| Photographs | Twenty recent passport-size colour photographs in light-coloured clothes against a white background |
| Tickets | The inbound train or bus ticket, needed for the travel claim |
The portal also offers forms to download and fill: a bonafide certificate for graduate candidates, one for NDA candidates, a character certificate, an indemnity bond and a percentage conversion certificate. Which of these applies to you depends on your entry, so read the advertisement before you print them.
If your address changed after you applied, the guidelines tell you to inform Air Headquarters in writing as soon as the written result is out, using the New Delhi address printed in the guidelines. Failure to do so can cost you the call-up letter.
Money matters: the fare claim and the bank account
The Air Force reimburses to-and-fro travel by the shortest route, at AC 3-tier or AC chair car rates or the normal bus fare, for a candidate appearing at an AFSB for the first time. The conditions are strict, so treat them as a checklist.
- Hand over the hard copy of your ticket. Without it no travel allowance is paid.
- Give an active savings bank account in your own name. Accounts in other names, and accounts of the Sukanya Samriddhi type, are not accepted.
- Carry a cancelled cheque for the online payment.
- Submit what is missing within one month of the start of your SSB. After that the amount goes back to the Government and no claim is entertained.
- No allowance is payable if you have already appeared for the same type of entry at any selection board.
Boarding and lodging are free during the period of testing. Candidates who arrive before the date and time on the letter, and parents or guardians who come with them, make their own arrangements. Book a room in Mysuru early if a family member is travelling with you, and remember the board has no facility for keeping cash or valuables.
What to pack, and how to prepare
The guidelines ask for a white shirt or T-shirt, shorts, trousers, track suit or salwar kameez, socks and a pair of white sports shoes, enough pens and lead pencils, clothing for the season and a medium-sized lock for your luggage. Phones, laptops and cameras are not allowed inside the premises.
Prepare for the six-day schedule, not only for the first day. Stage I is the Officer Intelligence Rating test with the Picture Perception and Discussion test. Stage II adds the psychological tests, group tests and the interview, and flying-branch candidates who are recommended take the Computerised Pilot Selection System, which can be attempted only once in a lifetime. Good preparation means timed papers, a regular running habit, a clear account of your own life for the interview and the habit of listening in a group before you speak. We offer free counselling by phone or WhatsApp on +91 70170 31757 if you want help planning those weeks.
After the board, candidates who are recommended go for a medical examination of four to seven days at the Air Force Central Medical Establishment in New Delhi or at the Air Force’s medical institute in Bengaluru. The Air Force Medical Board or Services Medical Board is the final authority on fitness.
