Madhya Pradesh is far from Dehradun: Bhopal is about 990 km from GS India Defence Academy, there is no direct train, and the nearest rail hop in our data ends at Haridwar. That distance suits a family that wants one residential arrangement for a few years better than a family that expects frequent visits. This page therefore leans on the after-Class-10 route, where schooling and NDA preparation run together, and lists the four MP cities that host the UPSC paper, Sainik School Rewa and the approved partnership schools, and what RIMC says about states.
Which Madhya Pradesh cities are UPSC centres for the NDA?
UPSC’s NDA and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2026 notice lists four centres in Madhya Pradesh: Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur. The CDS (II) 2026 notice lists the same four. That puts a centre in each of four large cities, so a candidate from Indore or Gwalior need not travel to Dehradun or Delhi to write the paper. UPSC allots centres first-apply-first-allot up to a ceiling and will not change a centre on request. Families searching for NDA coaching in Indore, and for its fees, should note that fees at our academy are shown only on the fee structure page.
How does a Madhya Pradesh student reach Dehradun?
The only city in our data is Bhopal, so the figures below are for Bhopal. Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur were not part of our travel research, and we have not published times for them; check IRCTC for your own station.
| Item | What our data shows for Bhopal |
|---|---|
| Road | 990 km to the academy, a drive estimate of 11.8 h before stops and traffic |
| Direct train to Dehradun | None in the timetable |
| Train to Haridwar | 12171 LTT-Haridwar AC Express, Bhopal Jn 20:30 to Haridwar 12:35 next day (16h 05m), Monday and Thursday |
| Haridwar to the academy | About 60 km by road, by approximate routing |
| UTC bus | No Bhopal service in the route list we read |
The Haridwar train runs only twice a week, so a family should pick the day first and then book the next stage. Times are from erail.in on 12 October 2026; confirm them on IRCTC or NTES. If you would like to talk through a journey this long, call or WhatsApp +91 70170 31757 for free counselling.
Why does the after-Class-10 route suit a distant family?
A family that sends a child 990 km away makes fewer, larger decisions. For a student who has just passed Class 10, our NDA Foundation course places Classes 11 and 12 and NDA preparation in one plan, with hostel and mess included, so the family does not have to run a school in one place and a coaching centre in another. The details of schooling, including the board and the stream options, are shared at counselling and confirmed in the admission documents for your year. A student who wants to keep every NDA wing open usually takes Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 11, because UPSC asks for those subjects for the Air Force and Naval wings.
These guides explain the choice in more detail: how to prepare for the NDA after Class 10, which stream to take after Class 10 and the route from Class 10 and Class 12. The academy teaches in classrooms only, and the separate boys’ and girls’ hostels are described under hostel and mess.
Which Sainik Schools are in Madhya Pradesh?
The Sainik Schools Society’s list of existing schools includes one in Madhya Pradesh, Sainik School Rewa, whose own website names the state. The nearest Sainik School to Bhopal by straight line is Sainik School Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, about 270 km away. Entry is by the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination, conducted by NTA, into Class VI or Class IX.
A Ministry of Defence list of 23 partnership approvals, released through PIB in September 2023, names three in the state: Saraswati Gramoday Higher Secondary School in Hoshangabad (now Narmadapuram), Syna International School in Katni and Gokuldas Public School in Khargone. Approval does not mean a school is operating or admitting; read the Society’s New Schools page and the NTA bulletin. Our Sainik School coaching page and the AISSEE admission guide cover the entrance.
What does RIMC say about Madhya Pradesh?
RIMC’s admission page states that generally one vacancy per State is allotted, that some States with larger population get up to two, and that the number of seats may vary every year. It gives no Madhya Pradesh figure. From the December 2026 examination, for the July 2027 term, the application is online through NTA and the test is at NTA centres; the age window is 12½ to 14 years. RIMC says forms will not be issued through State Government authorities, so a family in Madhya Pradesh applies directly online. The college is in Dehradun. See the RIMC admission guide and our RIMC coaching page.
