Faculty and SSB Mentors

Parents often ask a fair question before anything else: who will teach my child? A name on a brochure is not enough. You want to know the person’s subject, their qualifications, their background and whether they will actually be in the classroom. This page explains how GS India Defence Academy introduces its faculty and SSB mentors, and gives you the questions to ask when you meet them.

How we introduce our faculty

Faculty and mentor profiles appear on this page only after each person has approved their own profile. We do not list anyone who has not, and we do not borrow the names or photographs of people who do not teach with us. When a profile appears, it shows:

  • the person’s name and the subjects or stages they teach;
  • their qualifications and teaching background;
  • for SSB mentors, their service or assessment background, stated only as they have confirmed it.

Profiles are added as they are confirmed. Until a profile is published here, please ask the counsellor to introduce you to the teachers who would handle your child’s batch.

The roles that make a defence academy work

Preparation for the armed forces draws on several kinds of expertise, and a good academy brings them together.

  • Mathematics faculty teach concepts, then timed problem sets that build speed and accuracy for written examinations.
  • General Ability, English and General Knowledge faculty handle the language, current affairs and subject knowledge that the written papers test.
  • SSB mentors guide the psychology tests, group tasks, lecturettes and the personal interview, which look at personality rather than knowledge.
  • Physical training instructors build fitness and stamina through structured training and games, and help students understand medical standards.
  • Counsellors help parents and students choose the right course and plan the timeline.

Questions to ask when you meet the faculty

Whichever academy you consider, meet the people who will teach your child and ask them directly.

  • Which classes will you teach my child, and how often?
  • What is your own background, and what experience do you have of this exam or board?
  • How do you track a student’s mistakes and weak areas, and how do you tell parents?
  • Who handles SSB preparation, and does the same person stay with the batch?
  • What happens when a teacher is absent?

A teacher who is confident in their work will welcome these questions.
